The Justin Trudeau Deception. Black cats or White, its all bad for Mice.

In 2008, after 10 brutal years with George W. Bush at the helm, America finally had hope. “Change” was the call to arms of a young, incredibly handsome and divinely eloquent “anti-establishment” Liberal , Barack Obama. People all over the world where truly given hope by his earnest gaze,and statesman like speech. His physicality was also used to great effect. Instead of the short, slouching and slightly inbred looking G.W. Bush, here was a tall proudly standing man railing eloquent about raising the human condition, promising a brave and bright new future. What Obama gave them was ever increasing wars, social injustice and full Wall Street subservience. It was a shell game and we are now being invited to play here in Canada.

As we gaze at the sweet visage of young Mr Trudeau, with eyelashes any super model would drive her spiked heel through his head for, let us beware. Mr Trudeau promises “Change” as well, at every chance he gets. His movie good looks and boxers physicality compare favorably to the dowdy  Steven Harper ’s awkward manner and flat oratory. That’s why it is essential we take a very close look at what his history, and positions so far tell us about the package we are being sold. When examined closely they give us ample idea of what we can really expect if we hand him the keys while gazing into his dreamy blue eyes. We can expect to continue strait down the same path we now travel, increasing military and political subservience to the U.S., ever increasing corporate control over government agenda. The continued plundering of our natural resources without regulation by, or profit too, the people of Canada. And if any of you don’t like it, Mr Trudeau has backed all of the Harper governments security legislation, so you will be effectively dealt with.

Lets begin with a look at the short, but happy, political life of Justin Trudeau.

He was politically special right from birth being the first child born to a sitting Canadian Prime Minister since John A Mcdonald. He grew up as the golden child of Canada’s power couple. As his father was leaving power he was completing his high school at one of the most exclusive  private schools in Canada Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf. He went on to Finish his education at McGill. We next heard of him teaching at a an equally exclusive private school in Point Grey Vancouver. He kept mostly out of the spotlight. Then came the devastation of the Liberal party brought on by Paul Martins long fight to wrest control from Jean Chrétien.

By the fact he hosted Jean Chrétien‘s send off it is possible to divine what side young Justin took. By now back in Montréal’s exclusive Outremount area aside from brief walk-ons on CBC hosting various cultural events he was relatively quiet.He was not welcome in Paul Martins Liberals Then the Liberal party suffered the humiliation of the 2006 election under Paul Martins stewardship. Paul Martin worked out his sense of rejection from an office he thought was his birthright by returning to his privileged life as one of the richest men in Canada. Young Justin was immediately on the minds of the Liberal faithful. He  was immediately answering calls for him to step in by powerful Liberal backers.In 2008 he ran for the Liberal nomination in a Montréal riding he had never lived in, but not too bad a commute from his posh Outremont digs.To this day he would have very little conception of the lives of the people in his riding.

He handily won his riding nomination, leaning on his fathers name and the backing of the Liberal party elite. He barely won his seat in the federal election from a Bloc candidate, though to be fair the Bloc candidate actually actually lived in the area. Given the dismal, sequential failures of Stephan Dion and Michael Ignatieff he walked into the job as leader of the Party. Since then he has been closely guarded by Liberal handlers. He has not given one on one interviews with the media because of his many and very public gaffs.

So what do we know about Justin the future leader?

He has shown himself to be a supporter of Canada becoming even more of a “resource economy” then we currently are.  He has stated publicly and early that he supports the Keystone XL pipeline. And in an interview with Metro Calgary he stated “I am… very interested in the Kinder Morgan pipeline, the Trans Mountain pipeline that is making its way through. I certainly hope that we’re going to be able to get that pipeline approved. And I hope that Kinder Morgan learns from Enbridge’s experience,” It was soon after publicly taking these positions that the Liberal party’s fundraising started garnering attention and cash. The wisdom of this path can be seen after 10 years of Harper putting oil and other resources at the center of Canada’s economy. Within hours of the price of oil dropping there are dire warnings of country wide recession, the Canadian dollar plummets. Within days we hear the federal finance minister is to scared to drop the budget.

Mr. Trudeau has repeatedly backed Israel in its genocidal actions against an essentially defenseless Palestinian population. While he has played politics with the timing or manner of Canada’s continued unquestioning participation in whatever conflict America decides to engage in he has not distanced himself at all from those commitments. Even when there is clear evidence of the Americans’ helping create the enemy we fight, ISIL,  or destabilizing the area we are called to fight in, Ukraine. He has consistently called his party to vote for increasingly repressive “security legislation” and is calling his party to vote in favor of Bill C-51 which threatens to crush social and environmental movements and make independent media, and to some extent though, a crime.

And its not just him, its his party. There seems to be an amnesia associated with wanting to rid ourselves of the Harper Junta. The Liberal party of Canada has been in the pocket of big business for a generation. Jean Chrétien and Paul Martin started the process of deregulation and privatization in Canada long before a nervous Steven Harper emerged as leader of the new American republican sponsored Conservative Party. Speaking as a Canadian Veteran it was the Liberal Party who privatized the Veterans system with fatal results to the care of my injured brothers and sisters. The Liberal party began the disintegration of our control over our environmental and social policies by enacting NAFTA. They where willing to go further at the summit of the Americas in 2001. I was on the streets of Québec city in person to signal my displeasure. There is absolutely no reason to believe, because he has given no indication that, a man who has lived in the most rarefied strata of privilege all his life will suddenly revolt against his class interests by reversing the rapidly growing wealth gap in this country that is leaving it unrecognizable. His party certainly has no history of it.

So we are being sold the same empty rhetoric by the same kind of engineered to please of front-man, and we will be left with the same empty bitter feeling after.

But this isn’t our only choice. We have the choice in this country to elect anyone we chose. That we are presented with prefab false options does not mean we must take them. I am going against the prevailing wisdom of strategic voting because at base I find it hard to believe that cynically manipulating the electoral system, like our politicians, is any long or even short term answer to halting the disintegration of our society. In fact it will bring us more of the exact same thing in a prettier package. If we are going to make our way back toward equality,fair wealth distribution and justice in our society we need to take the opportunity of this election to fundamentally change the game. If you have a favored political party then insure that you, and all your fellow supporters take a close look at the candidates your party puts up. Demand to see their contributor lists and appointment books These people are proposing to be your employee, so take the time to interview them. Go see what goes on at your riding office and if you don’t like it take control of your riding association. And after the election do not leave these people alone, again you pay them, they work for you. Insure that your MP is reminded everyday of that fact. There are enough of us compared to them to spread the work of holding them to the fire around. A couple of thousand calls emails and faxes a day should be good for a start.

But foremost we must stop blaming a political class that will of course work for their own interests at every turn. Instead let us take a hard look at our own behavior as a society. We long ago withdrew from the political process. Who has the time to participate in committees and organizing after a hard days work and dealing with the kids? We do, we must. Because if we continue to not put in that extra effort of taking control of our political processes then we will continue to work longer and harder for less. If we do not take back the control of our country then our children will be left destitute and powerless in it.

We need to recognize that it is our political class, and the system of collusion that they have all quietly,  relentlessly built up is the problem, not any particular politician or party. We need to stop putting the business and banking class in charge. Why do the leaders of all three political parties, without exception, come from the most privileged strata of our society. Why we then expect them to do anything else but work for the comfort of their family and friends,not yours. It is time we have that bloodless revolution. This is certainly not a new idea in Canadian politics. Here I humbly defer to that greatest of Canadians,Tommy Douglas. This is the man who truly brought us Medicare and employment insurance. Even though not in power, forcing the legislation into being through the force of will and the brilliance of his simple unassuming, yet stunningly powerful words. They have lost neither their truth nor their power since he spoke them at the end of the double cataclysms of the depression and the  Second World War, I will leave you with them.

“It’s the story of a place called Mouseland. Mouseland was a place where all the little mice lived and played, were born and died. And they lived much the same as you and I do.They even had a Parliament. And every four years they had an election. Used to walk to the polls and cast their ballots. Some of them even got a ride to the polls. And got a ride for the next four years afterwards too. Just like you and me. And every time on election day all the little mice used to go to the ballot box and they used to elect a government. A government made up of big, fat, black cats.Now if you think it strange that mice should elect a government made up of cats, you just look at the history of Canada for last 90 years and maybe you’ll see that they weren’t any stupider than we are.Now I’m not saying anything against the cats. ..They passed good laws–that is, laws that were good for cats. But the laws that were good for cats weren’t very good for mice..They voted the black cats out. They put in the white cats. Now the white cats had put up a terrific campaign. They said: “All that Mouseland needs is more vision.” They said:”The trouble with Mouseland is those round mouseholes we got. If you put us in we’ll establish square mouseholes.” And they did. And the square mouseholes were twice as big as the round mouseholes, and now the cat could get both his paws in. And life was tougher than ever…Presently there came along one little mouse who had an idea. My friends, watch out for the little fellow with an idea. And he said to the other mice, “Look fellows, why do we keep on electing a government made up of cats? Why don’t we elect a government made up of mice?” “Oh,” they said, “he’s a Bolshevik. Lock him up!” So they put him in jail.
But I want to remind you: that you can lock up a mouse or a man but you can’t lock up an idea.”
